Is giving thanks useful?

There are many blessings in giving thanks, so we are indebted to whoever gives us the opportunity to do so. It is said that being grateful makes us happier and healthier, it also enable us to see more blessings. We always have something to be grateful for even though sometimes it may not seem like it for some folks. There are lot of things we take for granted. Imagine being able to breath on your own, to walk without assistance or to wake up in the morning and have a floor to put your feet on. How about having a roof over your head on cold winter night? What about being able to enjoy the company of your children?

Those are just a few examples of what most people tend look over and therefore would not be grateful for. If we look around us or travel with our minds to different parts of the world, we will see or know people whose biggest dreams are just to get what we don’t even value enough. Such is life. However once we become conscious of this, we realize that happiness comes only from within, not from anything external. We have the power to control the attitude vis à vis the things and circumstances that show up in our lives.

Thanksgiving comes in three simple but important steps. Step one is the sentiment; you have to feel gratefulness in your heart to give thanks. Step two is the attitude; you will probably agree with me that without the right attitude nothing can be accomplished. You will not be able to show your appreciated to God or people if you are not animated by a positive mental attitude. The third step is action. Now matter how good hearted you are, now matter how good and how positive your intentions are, nothing happens until you take action to show your gratefulness, your appreciation and give thanks.

‘Thank you’ are two words we can never say enough not matter who we are, rich or poor, young or old. As the saying goes, “no man is an island, entire of himself”. Whatever we are today, we became with the help of others. That’s why I do not subscribe to the idea of self-made man or self-made woman. Whenever I heard that term I tempted to ask “from when”. Anyone who claims to be self-made was born from someone, was helped and nurtured by someone before being able to do anything on their own. So “from what point were they self-made?

In my humble opinion one of the key reasons why anyone one should develop the habit of giving thanks is that it is the most powerful form of prayer. When you give thanks for things or the life that you want before you have them, it builds your faith and increase your level of expectation. Ask, believe, expect, receive! THANK YOU for reading this and Happy Thanksgiving to all!
